Substitute Teacher Position Available
Location: Diablo Valley Montessori School, Lafayette, CA
Program Areas: Infant Toddler and Preschool
Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced early childhood educator to join our team as a Substitute Teacher. The ideal candidate will be warm, enthusiastic, and possess excellent interpersonal skills. You should enjoy working collaboratively with a team and be committed to providing high-quality care and education.
Qualifications:
- Availability to work flexible hours between 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Minimum of 12 ECE Units
- Classroom experience with young children
- Live Scan and TB clearance
- Immunizations: MMR, TDap, Influenza, and COVID-19
- Physical ability to move easily throughout the classroom, interact with children, and lift up to 35 pounds
Salary Range: $21.00 – $25.00 per hour

Assistant Teacher (Floater) - Infant Toddler House
Location: Diablo Valley Montessori School, Lafayette, CA
Position Overview: Diablo Valley Montessori School is seeking assistant teachers to join our Infant Toddler program. We are looking for warm, enthusiastic individuals with excellent interpersonal skills who can work cooperatively and effectively as part of a team. The ideal candidates will have a deep love and respect for children and a passion for creating an educational environment that encourages each child’s unique abilities and gifts, allowing for freedom within limits.
Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:15 PM
Requirements:
- Minimum of 12 ECE Units
- Classroom experience with young children
- Ability to adapt to a flexible floater schedule and work in various classrooms within the Infant Toddler program
- Live Scan and TB clearances
- MMR, DTAP, Flu, and COVID-19 vaccinations required
- Physical ability to move easily through the classroom, engage with children on the floor, and lift up to 40 pounds
- Experience in a Montessori classroom is preferred
Salary Range: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour

Outdoor Classroom Head Teacher - Montessori Preschool
Location: Diablo Valley Montessori School, Lafayette, CA
Position Overview: The Head Teacher for the Outdoor Classroom is responsible for creating and managing an engaging, nature-based learning environment that aligns with Montessori principles. This role involves integrating outdoor education with the Montessori curriculum, fostering curiosity, and promoting hands-on learning experiences in nature.
Hours: 7:45 AM – 12:45 PM (part time), or 7:45 AM – 3:30 PM with the option of additional hours to assist with afternoon preschool classrooms
Start Date: June 2nd, 2025
Requirements:
- Must have at least 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred but not required)
- Montessori certification (preferred but not required)
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, preferably in a Montessori or outdoor education setting.
- Experience working with young children in an outdoor learning environment.
- Background in environment education or related fields is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare the environment according to Montessori guidelines to support independent exploration and learning.
- Collaborate with the Curriculum Coordinator to align outdoor lessons with Montessori principles and educational standards.
- Teach and facilitate hands-on learning experiences in subjects such as weather, magnets, rocks, clouds, gardening, planting, and other nature-related topics.
- Foster a love for nature and environmental stewardship among students.
- Develop and maintain a safe and stimulating outdoor classroom environment.
- Supervise and care for a classroom pet (preferred but not required).
- Encourage observation, exploration, and scientific inquiry through outdoor activities.
- Supervise, mentor, and collaborate with classroom assistants to ensure effective implementation of outdoor learning activities.
- Engage with parents, staff, and the community to support outdoor learning initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with safety and educational guidelines for outdoor learning spaces.

- Strong leadership and classroom management skills in an outdoor setting.
